Spotlight Rider:
Max Hilty

Premier So Max, what are you up to these days?
Max Lately I have been skateboarding a bunch and just enjoying my time away from school.

Premier Oh yeah, what's a typical day like for you?
Max Sleeping in really late and then skateboarding for most of the day. Then when it gets late I end up at a friend's house and do it all again the next day.

Premier Sounds like the life, no summer job?
Max Nope, no job this summer. Most likely I'll get one next summer.

Premier Let's talk about the ladies. Now that you're a pro snowsk8er, do you have to beat them off with a stick?
Max I'm not quite beating them off with a stick but pretty close haha. Actually a lot of the people in my school don't know I'm Pro they just think I'm sponsored. Next year when my model comes out I think a bunch of people will be surprised.

Premier Ya, both you and Isaac are coming out with your first pro model. Will that be weird to see people ride "your" board?
Max Yeah that is definitely going to be very weird. I am looking forward to walking into a skateshop and seeing my board!

Premier There is a lot of new comers to the sport, any recommendations or words of wisdom to encourage them?
Max When I started snowskating I just practiced a lot. I started learning new tricks and became more comfortable on my board.

Premier What was it that got you on a snowskate?
Max My friend Jake first got me into snowskating. He got an old Premier snowskate for Christmas when we were 11. After he got his it was only a matter of time before I got one.

Premier (Thank you Jake)

Premier What tricks should we look for from you this year?
Max Since I broke my arm last winter I didn't get to snowskate and film as much as I wanted to. That is why I'm going to try a lot of tricks this year. I really want to do some different things this year. I want to do some tricks on snowboard jumps like kickflip indys and 360s. I also want to do some huge handrails.

Premier Sweet... you guys keep pushing the limits every year, where do you think the sport's headed?
Max Snowskating has a very bright future. Right now I think the sport's progression is headed towards both skateboarding and snowboarding styles. I don't think it will be long before people are kickfliping 13 stairs and doing 360s over jumps.

Premier And you mentioned breaking your arm, how did that happen?
Max It happened one day when I was snowboarding with a few friends. It was really foggy and hard to see on the mountain. For some of the day it was even raining. It was our second run and I hit a jump I'd never hit before. I thought that I needed a lot of speed to do the jump but I ended up having way too much speed. I launched off the lip and immediately knew I was going to over clear it. I was doing a tail grab so I was already leaning back. I over cleared the landing and landed on my back and shoulder. I broke the bone between my shoulder and elbow and compressed a few vertebrae in my lower back.

Premier Besides snow sports what else do you like to do?
Max When I'm not on the snow I skateboard, play basketball, go golfing, and do stuff with my friends.

Premier Lastly, we had the chance to meet your parents and they seem real cool and supportive, how have they helped you come this far?
Max They have helped me out a bunch. My Mom has taken me to a lot of different events. It helps that the X-Games is so close but they have taken me out to New Hampshire and MT. Hood for various comps.

Premier That's awesome, thanks for talking with us and we look forward to seeing you and your family again at the X Games in 2006.
